On December 17th, The Metro-Manhattan (NY) Chapter of Links Inc. celebrated the Holidays with the women’s support group at St Mary’s Center, Harlem. St. Mary’s Center helps the growing community of adults in Harlem who have AIDS, or who are infected with HIV and are symptomatic, achieve their highest level of social functioning. Metro Manhattan’s National Trends facet engages in direct service with The Women’s Support Group at St. Mary’s by providing monthly educational workshop sessions.
During our December holiday party, we had a wonderful time expressing thanksgiving and gratitude. We also did a little bit of line dancing, and Metro Manhattan gave away individual gift bags filled with toiletry items from well-known national retailers. The highlight of the party was an announcement of a $1,000 gift from the Metro Manhattan Community Foundation to St. Mary’s Center.
The National Trends Facet is grateful for all of the partners, sponsors and chapter members who made this celebration possible. We received toiletry donations from organizations such as Shea Moisture and The Empower Cocktail company. Link members donated time and service hours in preparation for the event, as well as at the event. And the $1,000 gift was made possible through a fundraiser brought to us by the Metro Manhattan arts committee; a film screening of Wilhemina’s War, held at MIST Harlem in October.
